Our final category in the CCIICC was the candid/photojournalism category, which explores the excitement of spontaneous shooting. Images in this category could not be staged or directed in any way, they were genuine moments captured of events, activities and news worthy subjects.

Maria Novak excels in every style of photography she has tried! In fact, she is one of only two people who received a ribbon in EVERY category of this competition (Dani Sanford being the other.) Maria is dedicated to her craft and loves to explore any and every subject out there! This has lead her to take any opportunity she can get to try something new. It brought her out on a cold, sunny winter day to Barkerville, BC where she captured this image of the Gold Rush Sled Dog Mail Run titled “Teamwork.” This image earned her a proficiency ribbon and Best in Category for Candid/Photojournalism, which is just one more item on her list of many successes so far in her photography journey. (Two years ago Maria won Top Amateur Submission in the Professional Photographer’s of Canada Northern Region Salon.) We are honored to have someone of her talent level participating in our competition and inspiring everyone else to reach higher.
