Still life. Funny how it’s called “life” when it is inanimate. But truthfully, when still life photography is done right, it really does bring to life the subject and speak of the realities of life with emotive precision.

Two beautiful ladies shared the honour of Best in Category for Still Life at the competition.

Paula Sword is well known in Quesnel for her successful photography business: Photoheart. She’s also the Top Amateur Submission recipient from the 2013 Professional Photographers of Canada Northern Region Salon. So she’s no stranger to success. Her image, “Relentless Masquerade” is a deviation from her normal genre of people photography, but it expresses the message stronger than real faces ever could. Congratulations on a striking and impactful image, Paula!

Brianne Boyd came down from Prince George to attend the awards night and didn’t go home empty handed. 2 ribbons and a Best in Category is a pretty exciting result for her first competition. Her image “Kindred” was created to represent the special bond she has with her twin sister. I’m so excited for you Brianne! Way to go!
